This is typical French Chateau , with central heating, open fire and a lovely garden with a water feature steeped in history. To view some of the rooms available for you or your family to use whilst staying at Le Chateau please click on this link. We are already taking bookings for 2005. This area is no stranger to invasions from the earliest "Norsemen", through the exploits of William the Conqueror to the Allied D-Day Landings. Our house, steeped in history, was occupied in 1939 by a German Commandant and his unit until the Allied Forces drove them out shortly after the invasion of the Normandy Landing Beaches. While you are staying at Sue and John's bed and breakfast some of you may wish to visit some of the World War II and D-Day historical areas such as the Normandy landing beaches, Arromanche or the Omaha D-Day Landing Beaches. There are so many places to see and go that we have had to expand our website to accommodate the demand for information, please click on American War Cemetery Dawn on 6th June 1944 saw the beginning of one of the most significant events in 20th century history. Not only were the consequences of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy enormous but so too was the sheer size and complexity of the Military Operation. The first hour of the Invasion of Normandy alone saw 350,000 men and 20,000 vehicles come ashore on the Landing Beaches and even today, the Norman soil is the final resting place for almost 20,000 young soldiers who never returned after losing their life on the golden sands of the Normandy beaches. The Normandy Landing Beaches stretch for approximately 60 miles from end to end comprising of the American Landing Beaches of Utah Beach and Omaha Beach and the British and Canadian Landing Beaches of Gold, Juno and Sword. The largest of them was Omaha Beach where the main US Invasion Force nearly came to disaster. Now in their fifth year of running a b&b and renting gites, Sue and John, (originally from the UK but with a good command of the French language), have started to renovate and turn their barn into a gite. Many thanks to Anthony Ward-Thomas of Maitlandbell Removals for moving us so professionally and carefully to France The Normandy region covers 400 miles of channel coastline from Le Tréport to Mont St Michel. Tourism, bed and breakfast or Chambres d'Hôte as it is called in France is now a major source of revenue for the area, which explains the high standards of b&b, gite rental, and self-catering holidays available. The history of
the area is unique. There is sightseeing, places to go, and things to occupy the whole
family, whether it be for young children, their parents or grandparents and we
go on to list many of the attractions and history of Normandy in our website. |
